Cooper named new crew chief for Petty Petty Enterprises has named Stewart Cooper as the new crew chief for Kyle Petty and the No. 45 Dodge. Cooper comes from the Nationwide Series where he worked with Braun Racing and the No. 38 Toyota driven by Jason Leffler. Loomis is learning a new job, stretching his wings, so to speak. Putting him on the pit box is akin to putting Richard back in the car: the time for that is past. And, don't forget: Loomis has been there the whole time Kyle has been slipping... Cooper is an experienced crew chief with wins under his belt. It's his time to step up into the major leagues and make his mark. Besides, it isn't the CC's job to get the car into the Chosen .. it's the driver's. Kyle has the talent to do it. The only question is will he?

Re: Cooper named new crew chief for Petty but the driver needs a car cabable of getting there. of course this goes back to driver /CC comunication and if need be I can still do my pervious job, if that guy doing it now isn't getting it done. it's fine to advance and "spread your wings" but at the current situation there may not be team to manage if things came going the way they are now.

PE made the move to Mooresville to attract new talent. It seems to be working, but needs time to see if they made the right call. In the meantime, there's no need to re-org without a positive goal. And a positive goal is not a band-aid! I think the folks Richard has been alluding to who are interested in investing are looking for positives .. pulling Loomis out of his current role (over all the teams) to focus totally on the faltering one may not be considered as positive as getting new talent on board. Also, it's not as if Loomis is not available to the teams for advice. |

Re: Cooper named new crew chief for Petty I guess we all hate this scenario where there is even talk that PE is faltering, talk that Kyle is history, no people capable of filling in key positions. On top of all the talk it makes one wonder where the sponsors will stand. It's great to be a part of NASCAR history but .... is it money well spent for a corporation ? If funding starts tapering off will they be able to attract the needed talent ? To a degree I disagree about putting Loomis back in as CC. I believe in a temporary situation it could prove beneficial. If Loomis is a company man he will understand that he may be one of the key pieces. Nothing says he needs to be a permanent CC fixture but at least til the ship becomes righted. Granted the CC isn't the total answer but aren't you smarter using proven commodities ? It's been three weeks in a row now that they have failed to make a race. Great people sitting in offices aren't getting cars out on the track today.

Re: Cooper named new crew chief for Petty yeah , I guess I didn't clearify that I meant for loomis to be temporary on the pit box, just to get think going in the right direction again . then once safly back in the top 35 ,bring in your trainee for a few weeks as a no.2 CC , then when it seems to be working loomis could retuirn to his orginal position. I think the 43 in all this will be ok. thier well up in the top35 and should be able to get a sponsor and driver. hopefully thier smart enough to stay away from mayfield.
