Chicagoland Speedway

I have been going to the races at Chicagoland Speedway for the last six years.
Today I go online to make motel reservations and lo and behold now all of the local area motels are requiring a 4 night reservation at about 200 bucks a night. I think that is a little bit too much, not so much the price of the rooms, but having to take it for 4 nights.
Is that how motels are in other race locations?
This year may be my last Chicagoland. What a crock.

Welcome to the world of supply and demand. It's great if you're a business owner in the area; rotten if you're the consumer.

Just another reason I will probably N-E-V-E-R go to another Cup race. I like money too much to part with it on so frivolous an expenditure.

Same here. I love going to the races, but I will probably put my tickets on e-bay and try to sell them.

With the cost of the tickets, room, souveneirs, and food at the track. Probably looking at better than two grand for the weekend. That is getting to be a little out of my league.

I know Raceway Park closed but is Santa Fe still open? If that's gone too, where is the nearest track to Cook Co? Illiana? Kankakee? Grundy Co? Racing at any of these would probably be more exciting, cheaper and easier to get into and out of.

Is that how motels are in other race locations? Increasingly yes. Actually we're surprised you had not seen this sooner. Soon as the hotels/motels in the area of a significant (often those that are traveling or relatively infrequent to an area) sporting event realize the demand will pretty much ensure consumption, the "multi-night" requirement shows it ugly head. Fact that they then escalate the normal pricing is really irritating.

Look a little further out, and if you haven't already, see if you can find any that are not "name brand" and verifiable in some way as to their habitability. We've had some of our best times away from the over priced "in" places.

Re: Chicagoland Speedway

Check with the Chamber of Commerce in surrounding communities for respectable hotel/motels. The internet is just full of information that you are looking for.

Re: Chicagoland Speedway

I got room reservations at the Holiday Inn in Morris which is only 20 miles from the track. I used Holiday Inn web site to make the reservation for 2 nights.
All of the rest of the motels in the area are all 4 night minimum.
I will be going to the races for at least one more year.

Re: Chicagoland Speedway

I know at Talledega it's 4 night minimum and some are even longer.

Try getting a hotel that's close to Daytona....Luckily the area has an abundance of hotels that are within driving distance for race day. But if you want one close to the track some require a 7+ day stay because of speed week.
