| All The "Quality" Teams In First Duel? Don't know how many caught the question from Wendy Venturini to Kenny Wallace in the Duels pre-game show, but I did and couldn't believe she actually asked it and that Kenny didn't miss a beat in agreeing with her.
For those who didn't see/hear it, Wendy asked Kenny how hard it was going to be to qualify with "all the quality teams" in the first race, like none or few of the teams in race 2 could be considered "quality".
Even if she was talking strictly about the HMS teams (Kenny was running a HMS engine.), what a slap in the face to Jeff Gordon!
I know I can count many "quality" teams that were in the 2nd race .. many with past Cup Champs as drivers. Let's see: past champs included Stewart, Gordon, Kenseth and Jarrett. Others like the other JGR teams (Hamlin & Shrub), the other Roush teams (Ragan, Biffle & McMurray), both Yates (Kvapil & Gilliland) cars, the GEM teams (Kahne & Carpentier) and DEI's #8 team (Martin).
I'm sure arguments can be made to expand the list, but the point is: here's a person who's been around racing most of her life and who's job is "reporting" the event making the determination that only half of the field is worth much.
Then, after Jr. won race 1, they (Speed's personnel) basically shut down 'cause the hoped for outcome was achieved and nothing else was worth covering.
I, for one, am extremely P.O.'d over this.
Did anyone else see/hear it the way I did?
