Six Biggest NASCAR Myths

Woooo...I'm sure he will get some arguments from our members about the Top 35 rule...

Life in the Turn Lane: Examining the six biggest NASCAR myths

Also, anyone else think that maybe David needs to skip a few of those Hampton Inn breakfast nooks...
or at least lay off the bacon, sausage and eggs.

He writes for the Charlotte Observer and his articles are posted on Thatsracin.com.
Normally, he is pretty astute but this article paints him as a NASCAR Inc. apologist.

Re: Six Biggest NASCAR Myths

I, too, had to stop reading the story. I got a little further than you did Dustin but not much. In reality some of what he said is true but I find that there is a middle line that he isn't reporting on. I think it would be interesting to take each of the "myths" he writes about and create 6 threads just to get opinions on each one. At least that way we could pick the ones that interest us the most.

Any interest ??

David is somewhat like me, Dustin. He'll throw something out there just to make a person think. He doesn't necessarily promote what he postulates. Hopwever, I listen to him regularly and he is adamant about his thinking the fans "deserve" to see their favourite driver race whenever they plunk down the rubles to attend a race.

Bull Poopie!!!!!!!! As I stated in my individual myth reply, David has, unfortunately, gone over to the Dark Side.

Holy crap! He used a "customer" analogy! I did that when I first logged on today!

I couldn't get through the long-winded article, but I did enjoy the comments from readers at the end. Especially when the writer was corrected regarding how many points Gordon earned ... among other things.

He wasn't corrected though. The writer was 100% correct. Under The Chase format, Jimmie Johnson ended both 06 and 07 with more points than Gordon. In the old system, Gordon would have wiped the floor with Johnson, no doubt, but since the Chase inception, Johnson has played the game perfectly and has been rewarded for that.

Key word there is "ended", not "earned". Another good reason to get rid of The Chase ... not that I'm a Gordon fan, but I do side with those who think he's been robbed of his 5th and 6th Cup.

Que sera sera!

Be that as it may, you can't take away from what the 48 Team is doing. I believe I read an interview (I can't cite a source since it was early in the Chase and I don't quite remember where it was) with Chad Knaus saying that if they knew the team was in a position to make the Chase, they'd take risks with equipment on Chase tracks the first time around because they knew that they'd need an edge in the Chase.

They've taken this Chase format and turned it into 2 back-to-back championships and could easily make it a threepeat, and the other teams (Gordon included) are going to have to start playing the Chase Game too if they want to compete for a title.

"Risks"? Hmmmm ... I wonder what Knaus meant by that?

Ok, Dude ... enough of the Johnson sell.

BTW, I watched NASCAR Preseason Thunder tonight. It's on Speed at 7:00. They are practicing at Daytona. Of the one's who've run so far, guess who was the fastest?
