VIDEO: Daytona 1969 (some old school racing with a close finish )

If you're just interested in the finish watch part 7.
1969 was a year marked by the rivalry between Ford and Dodge. The Torino/Talladegas vs. the Charger 500/Daytonas (no wing cars here tough).

Also there's actually an rally/sportcar/F1 guy taking part in the race too (part 7 mentions him).
Deja vu ?!

Re: VIDEO: Daytona 1969 (some old school racing with a close finish )

Thanks, my friend. It brought back some memories though this was a race I missed, being otherwise disposed in SE Asia.

Some thoughts immediately come to mind:

This is a race which the new fans and the NA__AR radio talk show host would probably described as "boring." The announcers (one was Chris Economaki and the other was Bill Fleming) described the racing in detail and minimized their discussion of the drivers during the race. There were few technical explanations and no video gimmicks to enhance the viewer's enjoyment. The cars actually looked like cars one might buy from a showroom.

You and I think this race was one of the truly great ones. However, because of the lack of the above I fear many modern fans would consider it a real yawner.

Part Seven did contain a slight inaccuracy. Benny Parson was NOT a Detroit cab driver. He originally was from NC but his family moved to Detroit to find work. His father eventually ran a small cab company and Benny was primarily a mechanic and actually drove one of his family's cabs when they were short of drivers.
