Jimmy Johnson needs only to finish 18th or higher in the race to win the Cup .... what if he wrecks early and finishes outside of the top 20 ? if someone wrecks him, will it be called controversial ? ...... will the theorists come out of the woodwork ? |
I'd say it would depend mostly on
who wrecked him.
But, I don't see a major conspiracy wave hitting NA__AR over your scenario. It'll be a Hendrick Championship no matter which driver gets the Cup.
Remember, if Johnson finishes 18th he wins no matter when Jeffie finishes, right? It's a little simpler than that. The 18th position is good if Jeffie wins and leads the most laps and Johnson doesn't lead a lap. I haven't done the math but if Jeff has an average finish and Johnson leads a lap (which is very normal for any Cup race), then all Jimmy has to come up with is a 25th, or so.
My bet is that Jimmy will spend the day keeping the #24 in sight. If Jeff drops to around 10th, or so, and there are between 10-15 cars in the pits, with 75 miles to go I look for Knause to key the mike and tell Jimmy, "Sic 'em!" THEN, Johnson will go after #5.
