| Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch Gustafson's decision to switch out four tires instead of two helped contribute to a slow pit stop late in Sunday's Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. As a result, Busch dropped from the lead to sixth during a record-tying 12th caution on Lap 301. Busch never recovered and finished fourth. "I flopped between two and four," Gustafson said. "We didn't have the greatest pit stop there. I've lost them on two. I've lost them on four. I'm kinda tired of second-guessing myself. You do the best job that you can. It is what it is." | Re: Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch I agree. Every week they do something like this, especially if Kyle's in the lead. I don't think his crew chief agrees with it, but what can he do. He still wants his job. And I believe thats what's happening. After all you can't have the lame duck of the team beating your 2 stars of the team.

| Re: Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch I believe he would. Once or even twice you might could say was a mistake, but every week? |

| Re: Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch And now, the rest of the story, as they say. Which race did Schrub wreck his car in practice last week? I can't remember if it was the Busch race or Cup. Anyway, did anyone catch his comments to Gustafson over the radio ofter the first pit stop? He totally berated the man and the crew until Gustafson finally fired back with, "well, Kyle, we've been bustin' our φφφφφe$ fixing a race car somebody wrecked in practice!" His crew chief has plenty of motive for "accidentally" scewing up without directive from above. Busch shows no gratitude or humility. I'd be mighty tired, too, if I were this arrogant kid's crew chief. He has so much talent, but I'll never get why he has to be such jerk. I'm a fan of his huge talent, not his huge ego. He'll fit right in with Tony and Denny.

And I could understand if Kyle has no graditude after he gets out there running his butt off and then they screw him on the pit stops. And it hasn't happened just once either. |

| Re: Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch I just think it's kind of dumb to bad mouth the guys who are turning the wrenches. They can make you or break you, as we've seen in the last couple races with Kyle. He makes no apologies for putting them in a position to have to work their butts off to get his car back together and shows them no gratitude for doing it. He can't expect perfection of them if he doesn't expect it from himself. He's got to hold himself to the same high standard he holds them to. Otherwise, he's just a whiney hypocrit. |

he has been let down by his crew (chief) the last two cup races...when he could have won both ...unacceptable |

| Re: Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch I don't see it as him being whiney. He gets out there and runs his butt off to stay up front, comes in the pits leading the race, they screw up BAD on a pit stop. And he's suppose to be apologetic to them? When the jackman didn't get the car raised enough for the front tire to be changed ( and he looks at the front tire changer so he had to have known), how was that Kyle's fault? Then instead of taking 2 tires like everyone else was already doing, CC does 4 tires. How was that Kyle's fault? When the rear tire changer is already in his position and the front tire changer isn't even over the wall, how is that Kyle's fault? |

| Re: Slow Pit Stop Takes Down Kyle Busch I think, honestly, I own this problem because I just don't like the kid's attitude. I am biased against him. I guess where I'm coming from is that his crew chief is in a position to royally work him over. Kyle's attitude towards the cc could only serve to make matters worse, not better. Gustafson gets ticked, oops, that jack handle is stuck - oops, dropped a lug nut. My mother always used to say "you'll catch a fly with honey before you catch it with vinegar". Kind of a gross image, but you get my drift. He has a right to be angry, sure. I felt his sarcasm only made the problem worse. Hopefully it's all water under the bridge by now, and the next time he wrecks a car that his crew busts their butts to put back together, he'll be the bigger man and say thank you. You might see the performance of his crew improve if he does, as a little positive reenforcement goes a long way. But again, I do understand his anger. I just don't like the way he handled the situation. |
