Likely buried in closets of some longtime fans is a NASCAR legends country music album made a quarter-century ago. Ricky Rudd, along with Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace and a few other s, performed one song each. Rudd's song was titled "Trying To Win It All." Here's how Rudd tells the story behind the song. "The way the thing came about... no one really took it very seriously - at least I didn't - and then when it came time, you had some actual Nashville songwriters put songs together," Rudd said. "I got a plane ticket in the mail for me to be in Nashville, Tenn. So I was committed. "(At the studio), they pop in a tape - it was Dick Brooks or Kyle Petty or somebody was singing - and I'm thinking, 'Gosh, this sound studio can make anybody sound good.' So, I think I'm OK. "It's my turn, and I just didn't get the whole (wearing a) headset, listen to the jingling and then you're supposed to sing your lines. We made two or three takes, and I thought I was sounding pretty good. (The producers) had a little huddle up behind the glass, and you could see them talking. "They said, 'We're going to try something different.' We tried it like three or four times and finally they said... 'We've kind of discussed it and we think maybe we'd be better if you talked your way through it.' "
