NASCAR race generates more economic activity than Super Bowl for Detroit?

Michigan International Speedway generates more than $400 million in economic activity into its region, according to a study released this week. More than $260 million of that, according to the study, has direct economic benefits. For comparison, Super Bowl XL in Detroit in 2006 generated an estimated $302 million, according to a study commissioned by the Super Bowl Host Committee. "Hosting a NASCAR Nextel Cup series weekend is about so much more than simply hosting a stock car race," speedway president Roger Curtis said in a statement. "It's about jobs, tourism, national visibility, economic impact and development, and a quality of life for Michigan businesses and residents." -- NY Daily News

Can NASCAR capitalize on Yankees' early exit?

Maybe the people of Concord N.C. need to read this.

I can definitely believe it! Television ads during the Super Bowl may be the most expensive for advertising but the game is not nearly as large as a race. The race tracks fit so many more people, all bring money to spend...food, drinks, merchandise. And very interesting about the baseball playoffs. I love October

Impressive.

Got to be careful with the offered wording around this though. The $400M is for the year for all NASCAR events at the speedway.

The Superbowl number is for one event and does not include local team generated revenues. Also quite impressive.
