Add his name to a very short list which, unfortunately, will probably grow:
Shane Hmiel
Kevin Grubb,
and now Aaron Fike

Whether he was actually shooting or not, he was knowingly in the company of a person who was an active shooter (I'd say haveing a bloody napkin, works, and tar heroin would constitute "active!).

Red Foreman, on the TV show "That 70's Show" summed the situation up in two simple words:
"Dumb Ass!"

Add to that a saying that I like to say, " There is no vaccine against stupidity".

Personally, I like, "Ugly is only skin deep; stupid is to the bone." I don't recall to to attribute that one to.

Ron always has a drink in his hand but it certainly doesn't change this answer.

In a previous career I worked exclusively with addicts and alcoholics who ran afoul of the law. Coming from that angle I can say with a degree of certainty that no one will change a compulsive habit, such as addiction, until the [mental and/or physical] pain of continuing the habit is more than the pain of stopping it. From what I've read, Fike and his girlfriend were addicted to heroin and my experience with those addicts is that they have to hit absolute bottom before they physically and mentally kick the habit. Some people's bottom is losing a family or a career, as Fike did. Other's have a bottom which ends only in death.

From my experience, a good percentage of (not all) people addicted to pain killers for pain relief can kick it the first try. People doing pain killers (heroin, morphine, oxycodone, all benzodiazepines)for purely recreational reasons have a much tougher time. Everything that I've read leads me to put Aaron and Cassi in this latter category. Recidivism is extremely high.

In my most sincere voice, I wish both of them the very best and hope and pray that they make it.

Sorry for the sermon. I've worked in this field (before you jump to a conclusion, I have never been an addict nor alcoholic, unlike a majority of therapists who work with addicts) and I have seen, up close and personal, the pain it causes. Let's just say it's a subject I feel strongly about.
