What about the other people who's first language isn't English/American?

I'll stop myself before I get into some serious trouble.

If it's aimed at illegal aliens in this country, the idea is completely unacceptable!

actually I believe it's aimed at the 2nd most popular language spoken in the US. also, Hispanics are noted to NOT be NASCAR fans .. guess Brian is trying to entice some of the masses...

I'd call it the "second most used" language.

"Brian is trying to entice some of the masses..." in order to make a larger profit? If, in fact that be the case (which it quite obviously is)and based on his targeted audience, then the same could be said for the louts who knowingly and illegally hire illegals to work for them at low wages in order to increase the bottom line.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! Penny had the right idea on this one. I'm bailing before I start a rant which will whiz in virtually everyone's Cherrio's.

Oh, boy. I'm going to really try to tread lightly here.

If Hispanics are NOT NASCAR fans, why is Brian catering to them?

To be clear, I have NOTHING against Hispanics at all. In fact, I really don't have anything against anyone who is LEGALLY in this country.

How many other nationalities are not NASCAR fans?

I'll leave it at that ... I'm stopping myself. This is for another forum and this subject will get me into some severe trouble.

Done with this.

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

I think its quite simple why they did this. With the increased popularity of Juan Pablo Montoya, Nascar has reached a new audience..Its good for both parties..Means Nascar is expanding its viewers..

I can't help myself ... are you kidding me?

JPM is the catalyst for the Spanish-language web site? If that's the reasoning, it's pretty lame. New audience? I don't think so.

Look, I don't know about the rest of you, but every time I use my ATM, I have to choose between English and Espaņol. Every time I call for support for cable, internet, healthcare, etc., I have to choose between English and Espaņol. That's ok. It's just another click. But to say that JPM is responsible for a new audience and is the reason why NASCAR.com is now available in Espaņol is ridiculous.

The option of English vs. Espaņol is quite commonplace these days. JPM can't take credit for that!

Stay with me, Vince ...

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

I am a pretty open minded person. But - this kind of thing drives me crazy. I don't have much of a problem with a Spanish NASCAR website. The site can be reached from all over the world, obviously, and isn't just aimed at Spanish or Mexican immigrants who refuse (oops, Freudian slip) to learn English. But first I must ask, because maybe it's changed, isn't English the official language of the USA? If I decide to move to China, or Bum****** Egypt, am I safe to assume that everyone will learn the English language so I don't have to learn the official language of that country? I think not. A local middle school implemented it's new class schedule this year. Half of the classes are taught in Spanish, half in English. If your child is scheduled for 6 classes, she/he is required to take half taught in English and half taught in Spanish. If I spoke only English, I'd be mighty lost in those Spanish only classes. My kid would be out of that school in a New York minute. And then he could go enroll in a school that let him take any language he wants to - not forced to. And let's not forget MONTOYA SPEAKS ENGLISH!!! He didn't expect us all to learn his native language for him! Maybe he needs to do a public sevice announcement encouraging legal immigrants from our neighbors down south to learn the native language! Naa, I say let's just put up gigantic road signs with every language we can think of on it an watch the fun begin while we're all trying to find the right exit in our own language! When will it end?? We need that PSA, Juan!

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

If NASCAR wants to attract spanish-speaking fans, I can think of better ways than launching their website in spanish...

"Welcome to the new NASCAR.com, now showcasing amazingly bad web design in more languages than ever before!"

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

It seems so simple to me. If I was going to live, do business, marry into, WHATEVER!, with a person/people of another country/culture, the FIRST thing I would do is learn the language! There are imigrants living not far from me(I live in the MIDDLE of the midwest) that, after living in this country for THIRTY YEARS, still cannot speak Engish.
