DEI & Bass Pro Re-sign Deal For #1

Dale Earnhardt Inc. has re-signed Bass Pro Shops to sponsor the No. 1 Chevrolet and driver Martin Truex Jr. in 2008. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Truex, who turned 27 last week, has enjoyed a breakout sophomore season behind the wheel of the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet. The former two-time Busch Series champ won his first career Nextel Cup race at Dover International Speedway three weeks ago. In addition to his Dover victory, he's posted three top-fives and six top-10s and is currently 11th in points after finishing 24th at Sonoma. Truex's contract with DEI runs through next year.DEI is remains in discussions with Anheuser-Busch and has a short list of potential drivers to replace Dale Earnhardt Jr., who announced earlier this month he was moving to Hendrick Motorsports in 2008.
"We are having conversations with Budweiser daily," said DEI VP John Story. "But they do have other options outside of DEI. They are a great sponsor and we would love to continue our relationship but we have to put together an attractive opportunity for them."
DEI has also been approached regarding the acquisition of the No. 8 for Earnhardt Jr., but a formal proposal has not been submitted.

Re: DEI & Bass Pro Re-sign Deal For #1

Surprise surprise surprise! I figured they would sign him again. When all the rumors were going around that Jr was gonna leave and Truex was going with him, and Truex said no he wasn't, that he was staying at DEI. I figured then they would stick with him.

I'm glad DEI was able to re-sign them. BPS was one of Sr.s favorite places to shop and as such was his favorite sponsor...

This gives Truex seniority with DEI and now DEI will try to show Jr as being incapable of winning by giving Martin everything he needs. Next year will be interesting to watch.

I think they've already started. He is suddenly doing better than Jr.

Yep, and DEI should do that for Truex, Jr. Why should they give Dale Jr. the best of everything from now until the end of the season when he is basically a "lame duck" driver for their organization? For Dale Jr., he is definitely racing for pride and to show that Rick Hendrick didn't make a mistake in hiring him on with HMS. DEI is just making a sound business decision (as is BPS)....

Yes they should. He made it clear when all that with Jr came out that he wasn't leaving DEI. Said they had believed in him and gave him his first chance and he was staying there. I'm glad to see him running good.

DEI could not give JR what he needed to contend for more wins and championships, so why do you think Truex will get what he needs to run up front and contend in 2008? I just think that maybe Truex has finally stepped up and is showing that he can lead DEI and with JR leaving, it has lit a fire in him and DEI to prove that they belong, even without JR. DEI can now show if they are strong or not. Truex will do DEI well and show that he is one heck of a driver. DEI needs to try and keep him around.
