Talladega......HELP!

I’m going to my first ever NASCAR race….Talladega. Coming from KY, we’ll probably stay in Birmingham, a place that I’ve never been to.

I’m reaching out to the forum community for suggestions to best places to stay, what to do for night life on Friday and Saturday, restaurants etc. Is Birmingham the place to stay??? What are some interesting things to do all day Saturday?

Someone said that you should arrive at the track early on Sunday, say 8:00 am. What do you do until race time? Also, how’s the parking and traffic?

Any help is appreciated.

BTW, I will give a full report.

Thanks.

Blue

Alright Blue. I went last April. We stayed in Birmingham( the Homewood area). We stayed at a super8 motel. Not bad. Make reservations fast if you haven't already. In Homewood there are several dining establishments(Hooters is a good choice) along with 2 or 3 steak houses. By the reading of your post it sounds like your not goin to the Bush race on Saturday. I'm not sure of all the entertainment around there... but there is alot of info for tourists on stuff to do. The day of tghe cup race I do recommend leavin early to avoid traffic. If your goin to the track from birmingham you'll be takin I20. Take the first exit for the track which is exit 168(route/rd 77). Then turn left onto Speedway BLVD(you won't miss the road it's marked). When you get to the track I recommend parking on the other side of the road in the field(you do not want to park on the track side or around the track cause you will get stuck in there for 2 to 3 hours). Things to do at the track would be walkin around and talkin to folks and lookin at the souvenir trailors. I saw several people with little grills and stuff like that. When you leave.... this is the kicker. The state boys are everywhere, and I mean everywhere. The traffic in Birmingham will be awful. If your gonna travel I65 back to the Bluegrass I recommend this....

When you leave the track... go back they way you came(Speedway BLVD to route 77. Here's the tip. Stay on 77(don't get back on the interstate) and drive. You'll drive for about an hour(maybe a little less, maybe a little more). You'll pick up rd 278 that will get you back to I65 totally bypassin Birminham. It will save you about 30 to 45 mins of travel time. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel beside I65 ate, and about the time we was finishin other folks that went through Birmingham started to arrive. That's all I can give..

Have Fun, Q.

Hello Blue ,

I live about 25 miles from the speed way and can telll you pretty much anything you need to know but I need to know a few things first. Are you going to do the entire race package Friday final practice, Saturday Bush Series Race, Saturday night, Nascar Truck, Series and Sunday The Big boy.

Q gave you some really good advice make you hotel reservations now!!!!

Depending on what type of entertainment you are looking for Birmingham has several intersting places to have fun you just nneed to know where to look.

Traffic/ parking: Parking is no problem plenty, which includes pasture land, at the track and anything within 10 miles of the track. Traffic is horrendous I worked the Sunday Nextel Cup Race last year and it took me 6 1/2 hours to travel 40 miles.

If this will truely be your first NASCAR race ever you will be in heaven, seats are used only during cautions and pre race cermonies. I have been to more than 3/4 of the tracks that are currently on the circuirt and Talladega is by far the King of all tracks. If you are not screaming for your favorite driver you are holding your breath because they are racing 4-5 wide. Tallagega is 100% better now that they have resurfaced the track last year.
