Re: all Yates front row

I know that it made very happy!! Now lets see if they can finish the 500 that way. That would be totally be ultimate.

That would be a hell of a way to rebound. I just heard on the Speed Report that at the end of last year, Robert said he didn't care whether he lived or died things were so bad. That's a bit extreme.

Re: all Yates front row

That is just awesome! Its good see that team starting off the season like that considering the rough time they had last year. Oh, and congrats to Gilliland for his 2nd place effort in the Shootout! A year ago at this time, he had a very limited Busch schedule. My, how times have changed for that kid.

I'm just worried about the twins and any possible wrecks, etc., that may make either of them have to pull out a back up car. Do they have the option of not running it? I'm sure that they would and will run just for the "extra" track time. But that is what is what is going to have me a bundle of nerves until the twins are over. Then the next bundle of nerves will be until the end of the 500. Yeah, it maybe a pretty sleepless week. Just got to hope for the best. If it's suppose to be, it will be!! Right now, I'm just proud of what they have accomplished so far.

I'm not sure about the option of not running it. I wouldn't think so. I don't recall anyone doing it in the past. If they had the option not too, I'm sure someone would have. On the other hand, It's not fair to for NASCAR to say that the first two spots are locked in, but make them go to a backup if they wreck in the duels. I'm not sure of the rules on that one.

I dont think they absolutely have to start the 150s, but even if they do, its no big deal to jump out of line and go to the back, or even into the pits. But I'm sure they are going to want to use it as a test session.
One thing I am curious about, is the engine deal. Do these guys run the same engines all week like in a normal Cup race? Do they have to run the same one they raced in the 150s? If so, thats a LOT of miles on those engines including all the practices. Although, if they do change engines, starting at the back at the 500 with a fast car is usually no big deal, unlike Martinsville.

Earlier in qualification they said they will allow everybody 1 engine change after the twins. I just wasn't sure about wether the top 2 HAD to run the twins, they never said anything about that. I figure they would run it even if it wasn't "mandatory", just for the extra track time.

Re: all Yates front row

Do the teams run the same car in the 150 as they do in the 500? Thats a lot of miles on the motor. Even if they are allowed to change the motor after the duels, how do you know the performance of the replacement motor?
Man the Daytona week is so screwed up why don't they just qualify their way in and save the teams big bucks? Every year I always try to understand the logic behind it.

Yes they run the same car in the 500 that they run in the duels... The duels is what sets the field so they have to use the car their gonna run Yeah It's alot of miles... but they've done it that way for few years.

I too am baffled why qualifying is so complicated for the 500.
