| Re: Business Savvy or Traitors I am an old school Nascar fan. I remember when Gary Nelson and Darrell Waltrip were good ol' boys, before they sold-out our Southern institution to Tokyo. I have told everybody that I will boycott the Daytona 500 this year and friends and family think I am making much out of nothing. But I come from a Nascar era that I hate to say I see dying. I remember watching the Allison brothers. And Cale Yarborough, Junior Johnson, A.J. Foyt, Buddy Baker........ all these guys were my heros. But there's no place left in stock car racing for characters such as these. Gone forever are the tracks like North Wilkesboro. How long will it be before Darlington suffers the same fate?
And of all the people to sell-out our Southern pastime, a Jarrett and the Waltrip brothers. If the late great Dale Earnhart were here he would pull his ol' buddy Darrell aside and tell him what a stupid, traitorous thing he has done. See, I don't think Nascar was ever meant to be main stream. It's just a bunch of rednecks doing what we do best. We as a people have always taken what life has dealt us and made the best of it. A means to an end, if you will. We had corn liquor that needed to be delivered and we took the family car and did what needed to be done to get it into the hands of consumers. If that meant a heavy duty suspension to increase load capacity, we made it happen. More performance oriented engine to stay ahead of the law, we can do that too. And a fearless driver that could not only out drive the lawmen, but also deal with whatever unsavory character awaited him at his destination.
So I said all that to say this........... Toyota in Nascar? Was that corn liquor they were making in the stills in Appalacia? Or was it saki? |
