| Did GTG Make a Difference? For you new members the following won't mean much. But the old timers will remember, I'm sure. Correct me if I'm wrong because I have watched the Cup races only sporadically this summer and the pre-race shows even less. I don't recall seeing the lovely Ms. Harvick wearing her infamous ball cap during the National Anthem? Am I in error? I believe this forum was one of the only NA__AR forums politically incorrect enough to publicly chastise her for this perceived breach of etiquette. I know I never saw it mentioned in any of the media or blogs. Yet, it would appear that she has ceased to wear the cap? Did she have a sudden epiphany or does someone who knows her read this forum and mentioned the perceived offense to her and she complied? Or, have I just missed her continuing the habit?

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? As with many NASCAR faithful I have spent a decreased amount of time watching my favorite sport. That said I believe she has worn the hat on occasion. I would offer more of an opinion but ........ I've misplaced my soap box for right now. |

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? As I admitted, I haven't watched all the races and have watched only two Cup Lite races this season, neither of which were companion races. I usually don't pay much attention to the pre-race stuff. It's good if you are there personally but a lot of it losing its punch on the flat screen. I did note that she was bare headed for the pre-race CTS ceremonies when they have televised her and Kevie. But, in the few races where I have caught the drivers standing for our National Anthem, the times I have seen the lovely Lady H., she has been sans cap. Intentional or her part or not, I thank her and will call it progress. It's just the right thing to do. |

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? After reading this post, I paid more attention to the hat issue. During today's opening ceremonies I noticed a lot of female fans still wearing hats. Plus some of the camera crews did not remove theirs either. |

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? I wouldn't make any excuse for anyone wearing a hat. TV crew people should do their part but my heartache with her is that she knows she will be on TV in front of millions of service members, veterans and many flag wavin' Americans. Just because she holds some level of celebrity status doesn't make her exempt from honoring what the flag represents. |

There is a certain protocol which most of us learn at a young age. Then, there are some who are just to stupid to learn, are incapable of such learning, or are too important and/or self absorbed to be bothered with such mundane formalities. |

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? We had driver at a race at our local track that left his car running all through the anthem. After the race I asked him when he had been declared legally brain dead. He said he just "forgot to shut 'er down." Jeez. The idiots that continue to party throughout the anthem get told to zip it, in no uncertain terms. I'm not going to win the Ms. Congeniality prize, but I don't really give too much of a crapola.

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? I didn't notice Mrs. Harvick but I know it's been complained about before. I do agree everyone should remove a ball cap even women. I don't put my hand over my heart but I do like to sing along. And if I was wearing a hat I'd take it off. If your pony tail is going through the hole it will go back.

| Re: Did GTG Make a Difference? I'm like loco in that I seldom place my hand over my heart. BUT, you can bet your bippy that when the first notes are played, or the first words sung, I am uncovered and and a position of military attention, with hands at my sides, my eyes are locked on the flag if it is within my immediate field of vision and I AM QUIET! Something you vets will have witnessed, I'm sure, which used to drive me bonkers was the habit of some alleged professional military personnel who, when first call to colours was piped over the bases loud speakers, would make a mad dash for the nearest building. They did this so that they would not have to come to attention and salute when colours was being played during the raising and lowering of the flag. I realize that the civilians out there who have never spent time around military establishments might not know what I'm talking about but I'll wager every vet out there knows of which I speak. I have witnessed not only lower enlisted do this but also officers and upper enlisted. A no-class act in my personal view. |
