Fumes

So, some of you think I have a bad attitude toward NA__AR, eh? There's this guy named Peter De Lorenzo, a published 22 year veteran of automotive marketing and advertising who makes me look like a pussy cat.

Why should be interested in Peter De Lorenzo, you ask? I dunno. Maybe his resume? I like him because he's got a killer 49 Cadillac custom for his masthead.

Anyway, here's how he starts:
[(Posted November 2, 2:00pm) Detroit. To say that NASCAR and its ruling France family cabal operate in a parallel universe devoid of any semblance of rational thought or visionary thinking is to state the excruciatingly obvious. How Brian France and his minions have managed to accelerate NASCAR's already alarming pirouette into mediocrity with a numbing combination of non-decisions and a flat-out refusal to do anything proactive that might actually improve their on-track "show" or help position their antiquated, out-of-touch racing series for the future is almost beyond comprehension and will make for a nice B-school marketing class case study down the road one day. As in how not to do it.

After this opening he goes on to be somewhat critical. I would appreciate someone pointing out any statement he makes which is 180° off the mark.

For the whole enchilada, go to: FUMES - Fumes - Autoextremist.com ~ the bare-knuckled, unvarnished, high octane truth...

And no. Peter De Lorenzo is NOT one of my nom de plumes.

Re: Fumes

Nah ... Bob only puts into words what many of us feel but cannot adequately express. Also there is a whole generation of race fans who never experienced racing from the days of old so they only read what Bob writes or links to and I'm sure some read and wonder from what world do these folks come from. I suspect they say "it isn't my NASCAR."

I find it strange how some of the old time race fans are questioned about the constant complaining they do. I complain with the best of them and it's because I am not satisfied. I get it that racing will never be what it was in the 60's. I get it ... I get it. It still doesn't eliminate the fact that I'm not happy with what we have today and how the organization is run. How many companies/organizations depend on the public for their existence but refuse to even let us know the rules of our game ?? I could go on and on about complaints. For a large part they over shadow my enjoyment of the sport. Yes I will continue to participate as a fan of NASCAR but without the same loving acceptance and with far more criticism. This forum is my soap box and I stand proudly while I complain !!!

Thanks, loco. That was well put. Like, you, yeah I get it. You (and multiple others I am absolutely, 100% and completely sure, are as weary as you are of my incessant rants about the direct my favorite sport (not an "Entertainment event" as they would have us believe) has taken. What is the alternative. Roll over and just accept the crap they call "Racing?" I never have and I [hopefully] never will. I can only refer you to a quote by Edmond Burke which I believe in, to the depths of my soul: "The surest way to assure the triumph of evil is for good men to say or do nothing"

I'm not saying that NA__AR is evil, but what they've done to a great sport is blatantly wrong in my eyes, as well as the eyes of many others.

The alternative to spewing my rants and links is to do nothing. That would be tantamount to passive acceptance of today's NA__AR farce. I choose not to play that game. I am truly sorry if you're offended but, in battle there becomes such a thing a collateral damage. FWIW, because of some of your recent posts IRT this subject, I have cut back on the number of rants and links I have posted. There is much more I feel like posting, believe me.

Have a good day.

I will grant that putting a "some of" between "their" and "most," would probably have been a better choice.

But I think the general feeling is right on. I was a REALLY ardent fan up until almost a decade ago. Speaking a a ardent fan of NASCAR (vice NA__AR), I am truly sick of it.

I think your right on target Bob. Sure you were'nt a gunners mate? I enjoy reading what people truly think. I noticed there is a poster here who seems to be pro Brian. I'm sure you will set them strait. I wouldnt want to be known as a friend to Brainless Brian.

As a matter of fact I was a "Cannon Cocker" (GMG) for a time. But the rate was closed and I converted to Storekeeper (SK). Then, at about year 9, I had a bit of a problem with my detailer. He wanted to send me to a bird farm (real long story there. It's an example of how, when the NAVY wants you to do something they'll attempt all type of things to "convince" you) and I'd been there, done that, and wasn't gonna do it no mo'. I was up for reenlistment and when the smoke cleared I'd SCORE'd (converted) to Crypto Tech Maintenance (CTM), not the most brilliant move I ever made in my career, but that's another story. I remained a CTM for the rest of my career (22 years, 8 days, 6 hours - ask me who was having fun!)

You guys make it seem like a sport watched by millions and millions of people is so easy to run! If Bob Tanner was the president of the sport...then it would all be perfect with no complaints from anyone...right?

So, the solution is for we "Unwashed masses" to just be quiet, and silently let the powers in Daytona Beach run a great sport into the ground?

I would challenge you, or anyone else, to read the entire article I linked to, then step back and objectively analyze what was written and identify any criticism made which was a fabrication.

Our good friend kkfan, made a good attempt (I salute him) but missed the mark a bit because he identified himself as the typical "Ardent fan," where there are those of us who were ardent fans long before NASCAR became NA__AR.

Your boy, Lollipop, was instrumental, but not totally to blame (his father had a big hand in today's total product also) but he's the captain of the ship and while the course he's charted is running parallel to some strong winds, he refuses to change course and get his ship back on a safer heading. I think the ship is in danger of, if not sinking, suffering horrendous damage.

He's getting paid the big bucks but Ol' Brian just ain't earning them.
