43 cars lined up nose to tail on a 2.66 mile track is not called a race. It's a parade.

I'm sure that it's the economy and not the racing. This just shows that folks are too poor to watch the races on TV.

I fear the last stat given just shows that far too many enjoy wrecking and not racing?

In all fairness, ABC (NA__AR Coverage) isn't doing as badly as CBS' NFL games. They were down 7.8%. NBC was down 2% FOX was up 5.1% and ESPN was up 5.8. I'm sure the football fans can justify these numbers; I'm totally at a loss and would enjoy explanations.
it wasnt to me im a huge racing fan but i only watch the sprint cup and nationwide when i can at this time people are to in love with football or pumped for basketball thats all i can give you

I'm with ya KK... We will just have to admit that this weekends race was one of the worse race's ever in NASCAR history. Dale Earnhardt would be rolling over in his grave and we should protest NASCAR (after we all watch the race of course).
As you know this thread will die as soon as they run Texas Sunday... Next can of worms please! Make sure you don't miss a thing so you all can complain some more!

I agree Salty, below is a great web site that shows the finishing order of all NASCAR races ever run... Look at all cars on the lead lap and the margin of victory in these races run in the 60's/70's and even the 80's... They never would be able to run those races on tv these days... Looking at the stats it doesn't look so exciting to me

Re: Talladega TV Ratings Down

Lets see... This week in the almighty NFL we saw the following games:
Ravens 30/Broncos 7
Texans 31/Bills 10
Bears 30/Browns 6
Cowboys 38/Seahawks 17
Eagles 40/ Giants 17
Titians 30/ Jag's 13

Looks like a lot of stinkers too me... how come Joe NFL fan isn't blowing up this web site with brutal complaints?? How many bad baseball games with empty seats did you see this season? where is Joe baseball fan with his complaints?
What is it about Joe NASCAR fan that makes him stomp, rant, cry and complain?

Re: Talladega TV Ratings Down

I think the difference is that you only have "one" Nascar race, where as in stick and ball you can just flip through the channels until you find a competitive game.

Lucky for me I didn’t watch the blowouts, but the barn-burner at Lambo field and yesterday's MNF exciting game in New Orleans.
Also, the World Series has produced classic games so far (highly recommended) as it could end tomorrow.

I agree but my point is just like in ANY sport you have great games and complete snoozers. Racing isn't any different, you have great races and snoozers. Also over the course of a 500 mile race you can't have non stop action.
To me personally I thought this past weeks race at Talladega was a good race. to me it was no different then any other talladega race in years past. Anyone remember in the early 90's when Harry Gant won with the caution free race at 'Dega?
Even if some here think that this past weekend's race was a stinker..... SO WHAT? What's the big deal?? I have been watching NASCAR for about 25 years and remember plenty of boring races, I can all say the same thing about the NFL and MLB.

As mentioned, a lot of the racing in the 60's and 70's was a lot worst, leader lapping the whole field or half the field braking down.
But, back then there was no choice.
A lot of Baseball and Hockey fans "don't" watch regular season, that would turn your brain into mush.

I'm sure that it's the economy and not the racing. This just shows that folks are too poor to watch the races on TV.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Talladega scored a Nielsen Household Rating of 1.34 (999,000 households), up 21 percent from last year's 1.11 (816,000 households), making it the highest rated Talladega Trucks race ever and the second highest rated Truck race of the 2009 season (season opener in Daytona was No. 1). The Halloween afternoon race peaked at 1.67 (1,243,000 households) and carried more than one million households for two hours. Last year's Talladega coverage peaked at 1.36 (1,000,000 households).

Well truck ratings were up,again, and you have to have cable to get speed but don't have to get cable to get abc. Nascar needs to go on and admit it's not the economy and start working on getting it turned back around.

Au contraire, mon ami.

I think Brian will probably look at it as: It's obvious that only rich people who can afford to take a Saturday off can watch CTS on their TV's. It's those rascals who are responsible for this misunderstood difference in TV ratings. Cup's ratings are falling because the rest of the country is too poor to watch the "races." It CAN'T be the racing! Look at all the wrecks and carnage we produced yesterday! THAT's what the people REALLY want. Good racing? Who needs that when you have a Playoff, big name drivers you can interview, and a track which you can always count on to produce a couple of multi-car crashes?
