Bobby Labonte visits RGM? hearing that Bobby Labonte, who drove the #96 Hall of Fame Racing Ford for the majority of the 2009 season and will finish out the season in the #71 TRG Chevy, recently visited Robby Gordon Motorsports. Supposedly Robby Gordon is considering starting a 2nd team for 2009. Gordon owns and driver the #7 Toyota. And having a driver with a past champion provisional [Labonte won the 2000 Cup Championship] would be attractive to sponsors and a start up team with no owners points as Labonte has a past champions provisional to use.(10-29-2009) jayski

Having the Champions Provioisionals does have it's good points. And besides that; Bobby ain't exactly a bad driver, he's just having a tough streach. So any team would be stupid not to put him in their car.

Of course you could put in some kid that's wet behind the ears. That does seem to be all the rage now in the sport. But I'm just venting.

what is bobby's obsession with bottom feeder teams, don't get me wrong I like robby , but he doesn't exactly have front running cars. bobby is a good driver and an excellant spokesman for any sponsor.
why is he not trying to get a good ride, is it the pressure ????

Obviously he already turned down a ride from Hendrick, RCR, and Gibbs before heading over to RGM to talk....

I'm guessing it's because it's all he's being offered.

I agree, Bobby isn't hot property any more. And it's not a knock against him but it is what it is.
The offers he will get will be mostly from teams that want him for his Provisional. And there ain't nothing wrong with that. He will stay busy for another 5 or 6 years with that by just signing one year deals...Look at Terry and Bill Elliot.

That is one reason I hope Mark Martin never wins the championship...We will never get rid of him then!

God I don't want him being around for 5-6 more years. I'm hoping I won't have to hear him anymore after 2011.

Old Bobbies, particularly those with champions provisionals seem to be popular with teams who can't consistently make races otherwise. Lets see how popular he is when he uses up those provisionals and has to qualify in order to start.

I like some of the older drivers, but when you can't find a ride with a competative team, maybe its time to go to the TV booth and replace DW. Thats a move I could get excited about.

It will be interesting to see if where Bobby ends up in 2010 wether it be with TRG, RGM or some other small time team.

Bobby's best days were back when he was at JGR. But when he left, it's been all downhill.
