Re: Stop whining

I agree with what he said. There are a bunch of pansies out there. Then you have a few that race hard, and Nascar will eventually wear them down to where they won't do that anymore ( Kyle Busch for example).
But when you think about why do they have to race hard or try to race for a win? They are going to make their millions a year regardless of if they win or lose the race.
It's not just all about the bottom line with France, it's also that way with the majority of drivers too. And to me thats what is killing the sport, it's not the economy or the new car.

Re: Stop whining

Nascar is just too watered down these days. Remember back in the day when they would wreck each other and then fight or at least argue FACE TO FACE about it?

Now the slightest bump and they are all saying sorry as soon as they get out of the car. Then they go text each other "OMG, I'm like so sorry I hit you" they they go out for tea.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed how watered down the NFL has become. It seems there are so many pathetic teams and a few great ones...Has Charlie taken a page out Brian Frances play book? Maybe this is a topic for another thread??

If they are true racers they would be racing hard regardless of what money they make.

Re: Stop whining

While I am not really a Montoya fan, I will admit that a great quality of his is that he will race from the start of the race to the end. Or at least, when he wasnt points racing before the Chase, he was. I mean, so far in this chase, he has been racing his guts out, putting 100% and treating every lap like it was the last one. His battle with Gordon this weekend is a good example of that. He has nothing to loose.

Re: Stop whining

Since Larry Mac brought up Dale, I remember a couple of things he once said...

"If I didn't win, I didn't eat. If I didn't win, dinner was a cheap bottle of wine and a tomato sandwich."

"I would race you as hard for a bushel of apples as a bushel of dollars."

Yes, those days are gone, so I doubt too many of today's Cup drivers could say that. But more importantly, they sure don't race like it. When they do, somebody from Brian's Ivory Tower slows them down. The latest to get that message was Brad Keselowski. I'm surprised JPM hasn't heard from NASCAR.

Re: Stop whining

What was the 17 talking about a couple of weeks ago in the post race interview when he bo hoo'd the chase? Saying that you bust your A** during the season to no avail and someone performs during the last 10 races and all is for naught. What the h*ll did the 17 do during the season that he was cheated out of because of the chase. He pretty much was an almost ran during the season and has been a close but no cigars during the first 5 chase races. I'm not a 17 fan, but I would vote for him as one of the biggest whiners in Nascar. Hey Mat, if you can't win then get out of the way.

Re: Stop whining

It's a different world, people. For the veterans here you know what I'm talking about. Heck, you don't have to go back to the 60's or 70's but just look at life in the 80's and compare it to today and you'll see a huge world of difference!

In the 80's you could smoke in offices, bars and restaurants, now the place better be on fire if there's any smoke in it. You didn't have all this "global warming" crap - it got hot in summer and cold in winter, pretty simple but today, it's global warming... Fights happened at concerts and school and no one was sued, it just happened then it was all cool and you all hung out again... No one "Twittered" we just called on the phones when we felt like wanting to talk to someone. You minded your own business, you hung with your guys and the world didn't know squat about you and if you had issues, you dealt with them, not go crying to some "authority" or posted it to some social networking site to help you out. Today, there's a cause for everything and the younger drivers are no exception. If they don't get their way, they moan and groan about it, and back in the day, no one knew or cared, but today, it's broadcast for everyone to know. And if there's one thing people like it's gossip and intrigue!

Get used to it folks, this is today's world. They moan and groan and want everything their way and frankly, a lot of us are to blame for their attitude because we worked hard to make sure they "didn't go through the hard times we went through!" Now look at what we got...
