Stewart not expected to expand

Stewart not expected to expand to three teams: Owner/driver Tony Stewart says he doesn't foresee his Stewart-Haas Racing organization expanding to include a third NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team in 2010. Stewart-Haas currently fields the #14 Chevrolet for Stewart as well as the #39 Chevrolet for teammate Ryan Newman. "We're at a point in the season right now where we're getting close to the Chase [For The Sprint Cup], and we're focused on that," Stewart said Tuesday while hosting the second annual Smoke Show fantasy camp at Texas Motor Speedway. "We would pretty much have to have the decision, the agreements on all that already done. We'd have to have the driver, the sponsor; we'd have to have that done by now to be able for it to be feasible for next year." While Stewart has previously said that he would be open to adding a third team in the future, he said Tuesday that expansion wouldn't come "at the sacrifice of performance."(SceneDaily)(8-7-2009)

woohoo now we can stop the ridiculous notion that every driver wants to go to a nonexistant 3rd car

Well you know how the Silly Season gets in gear quicker every year. The phantom 3rd team just made things worse.

Re: Stewart not expected to expand

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.Time is running out on a potential third team at Stewart-Haas Racing for next season.
"I don't think we've ruled that out yet, but it's getting to the point of the season where if we're going to do a third team, have a third team for next season, it would have to happen pretty quickly," Stewart said at Watkins Glen International. "At least having the sponsor and driver lined up to make sure we have an adequate amount of time to get all the tools and pieces in place for next year. But I would say it's not very likely."

So on Tuesday he was saying there would be no expansion and on Friday he's saying it hasn't been ruled out. Maybe he's waiting for someone else to let him know what he's gonna do?

I think he'll wait until Kasey fulfills his contract with Gillette.

It depends on how much actual power Smoke weilds at SH/Hendrick. If he "decides to start a third team with Brad," we'll then know that it is official; The felon has more than four teams. If he holds out for kasey and keslowski does something else them we know that Tony actually has some power in his "ownership." ("Ownership" that is given and not invested heavily in worries me a bit)

Time will tell.

Did anybody notice that twice Smoke called Jeff Gordon his team mate? You are right about the SH/Hendrick Bob

Don't forget that in the first few weeks of the season Jimmy Johnson regularly referred to Smoke as HIS team mate.

It's all such a charade.

Re: Stewart not expected to expand

Now now he said not at this time but later on in the future. I believe he said not quoting he couldn't rule out the possibility?

Re: Stewart not expected to expand

right now tony's team is way ahead on their success schedule....that puts in the drivers seat making these decisions....and also gives him time to think about who, when and why.........maybe someone from open wheel ???? maybe someone that would make immediate headlines???? who would fill this bill???

Absolutely agree Bob.........ownership was given to Smoke and while Hendrick may have respect for him....we have yet to see whether Tony weilds any real power

Like I've said before. I don't care who owns the car as long as Smoke runs up front!!!

Ok, there were too many things I wanted to quote, but figured I would jump on this one first. Danica??? Seriously??? Please tell me you were kidding. With drivers like Havick, McMurray, and others that have already shown the ability to race (if not win) at the NASCAR level available soon, lets kill the Danica thing already. Before she should even have her name thrown out there, can we have her win more than one open-wheel race? In 78 starts?? And only 16 top 5 finishes?? Please, the last thing we need is another Mikey W out there as a field filler. Hell, even JPM had 7 F1 wins, and look at the struggle he's had.

Personally, I think that with Truex off the market, and this late in the season, Tony should stick to 2 cars next year. The only exception to this would be if Tony could land Harvick, or Jamie-Mac, and they come complete with sponsorship.

And I disagree about Tony having no control over SHR. I know coming from a Tony fan, you will all take this with a grain of salt, but being in this area, I know a few people that work there. You would be surprised at the actual division between SHR and Hendrick. If you want to look at teams that just an extension of HMS, look no farther than JR Motorsports. And he is talking about taking his team to Cup very soon?? If SHR is teams 5 and 6, than JRM is going to be 7. And do we really think Jr has the balls to tell his boss no?? Riiiiiiiiiight.
