| USC awaits bowl fate from the sidelines It looks like Shreveport or bust for South Carolina. A five-game losing streak and a last-second loss to their instate rivals could leave the Gamecocks on the outside looking in next weekend when bowl bids are announced. Because of an NCAA rule requiring bowls to take schools with winning records over 6-6 teams, either USC (6-6) or Alabama (6-6) will be left out of the SEC’s bowl picture. And it appears the few at-large spots for other bowls will be taken by teams with 7-5 records. So if the Gamecocks hope to go bowling for the third consecutive year, USC’s administration has to convince officials with the Independence or Music City bowls that it can sell tickets to a fan base weary from the school’s longest losing streak in five years.
