| Spurrier not discouraged with season About halfway through Steve Spurrier’s weekly news conference Tuesday, a reporter mentioned to the South Carolina coach that he was in danger of losing four games in a row for just the second time in his college career. “Well, I’m not going to quit. Is that what you’re trying to say?” Spurrier said, drawing laughs. “But I also understand where we are and what the other team looks like.” Where the Gamecocks are after nearly three years under Spurrier is where they have been for the majority of their 16 seasons in the SEC: in fourth place in the East, ahead of Kentucky and Vanderbilt but trailing the power troika of Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Spurrier won a share of the ACC title in his third season at Duke. In Spurrier’s first three seasons at Florida, the Gators finished first in the SEC twice and lost to Alabama in the conference’s first championship game in 1992. Full Story
