| Gamecocks thinking bigger than bowl eligibility If anyone needs more evidence that South Carolina’s football program is growing up, look at how the No. 6 Gamecocks celebrated becoming bowl eligible with their 21-15 win over North Carolina on Saturday. They didn’t. It’s the fourth straight season the Gamecocks have made themselves eligible for the postseason, something that was cause for celebration as recently as the last couple of years. Not so anymore. “In the history of South Carolina, any time they got bowl eligible, they had a party down in Five Points,” South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said. “And they’d be laughing and hugging and high-fiving in the locker room. They'll be right in the thick of the BCS race, and I'd be surprised if they didn't pull down at least a bid to one of the games. Maybe as SEC champ, even.
