LAST WEEK USC revealed the minimum academic requirements prospective athletes must meet to be admitted. The guidelines were created so that the Gamecock coaches, the prospects they are recruiting, have a full understanding of what it will take to get an athlete into school.
One prospect already affected by this approach is defensive lineman Randy Salmon (6-foot-3, 285 pounds) of Stockbridge, Ga. He has been favoring the Gamecocks since the summer and has been on the verge of committing. But now he must wait.
“They are still number one on my list,” he said, “but I’m waiting until the end of the semester to see how my grades are. I want to be sure I can be accepted.”
