| Spurrier’s record motivates Wildcats Steve Spurrier is a big subject for the opposition, whoever it is. Even when the opponent is undefeated and ranked No. 8 in the country, but maybe especially when it’s Kentucky. Spurrier enjoys a 14-0 career coaching record against the Wildcats, the past two as South Carolina coach. Kentucky receiver Keenan Burton is well aware of that. “That’s great, honestly, for him. Because if you can beat a team handily as many times as you’ve beaten us, that shows you know how to win,” Burton said. “What we have to do is come out and give ourselves a chance in the fourth quarter and try to be the better team on that day. ... So that we can get our chance to say Spurrier 14, and Kentucky 1.” Spurrier’s most oft-mentioned quote from the most recent SEC media days came when he was asked about Kentucky. Spurrier replied that he thought Clemson was good last year, “then Kentucky beat them” in the Music City Bowl. Some people took that as a shot at Kentucky, whose star quarterback Andre’ Woodson was asked about it Tuesday. “We’ve heard that for awhile,” Woodson. “But it really doesn’t play a big part in how we play or how we’re going to come about this game. once again, that’s just something where we have to continue to earn respect. We really have to do a good job of coming away with a lot more wins, because that’s how you get more respect.” To be fair, Spurrier has been glowing in his praise of Kentucky this week. He said Monday this was one of the best Kentucky teams he has seen, calling the matchup with his No. 11 Gamecocks one of “two evenly matched teams.” Notes: Spurrier’s record motivates Wildcats
