| South Carolina Football | Dynamic duo For all the worries on offense, USC football coach Steve Spurrier has been paying the ultimate compliment to his two top running backs: A lot of times, he doesn’t even know, or care, whether Cory Boyd or Mike Davis is in the game. “They’re two of the best I think I’ve coached,” Spurrier said. “They can run inside, outside, catch a few passes. Look at our offense, they’re probably our two main guys right now.” And while sharing the carries may not be ideal for Boyd or Davis, neither is complaining because it has worked. Boyd has 255 rushing yards, while Davis has 252. They are also tied for second on the team with nine catches, a symptom of USC’s passing problems, but also a sign of what the duo can do. “I’m a back just like Cory’s a back,” said Davis, who attended Columbia High. “He’s good. I’m happy to play with him. He’s like a big brother to me.” Running backs coach Robert Gillespie usually decides which player is in the game. Much of it has to do with which play is being called, but the two have distinct styles. GoGamecocks.com | Football | Dynamic duo
