| South Carolina Football notes | Freshmen to receive more action Though South Carolina freshman receivers Chris Culliver and Jason Barnes saw action in Saturday’s win at Georgia, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said neither had many opportunities in the passing game. That will not be the case this week. Spurrier plans to give the first-year receivers more repetitions at practice so the Gamecocks’ staff can make decisions about playing time and possible redshirts. “We’re going to spend some extra time coaching those freshman receivers and see if we can get ‘em on the field and help out,” Spurrier said Sunday. “We’ve got to find out which ones can play in the game.” Three of the six freshman receivers have played — Chris Culliver, Matt Clements and Jason Barnes — although none has caught a pass. Culliver, a Raleigh native and one of the team’s fastest players, has three carries for 32 yards and had a 16-yard kickoff return against Georgia.
