| South Carolina's Jeanpierre shifts to right guard Right guard has quickly become the most unstable position on the South Carolina football team. Just when the Gamecocks thought they had their third starter in the span of a week, they are back to the second one. Redshirt freshman Kevin Young will miss the next two-to-three weeks after injuring his left ankle, just a day after moving up to first string on the depth chart. He will be replaced by Lemuel Jeanpierre, a converted defensive tackle who started the opener. Jeanpierre had replaced James Thompson, the annointed starter after preseason camp who was then suspended three games for a violation of team policy. Junior Gurminder Thind, the backup at left tackle and left guard, could also see action at right guard. Young was injured during Wednesday’s practice, when defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis fell on him. “Unfortunate, just practicing away,” coach Steve Spurrier said. One for the books? If South Carolina can beat Georgia on Saturday, the Gamecocks will achieve something that speaks well to their current state, but badly for their recent history. A win would put the program’s all-time record at 517-517-44, making it .500 for the first time since the 1988 season. That year a loss to Vanderbilt knocked the record down to 467-467; the next week USC fell to Tennessee, and has been below .500 ever since. Jeanpierre shifts to right guard
