| Boyd's Two Touchdowns Lift Black Over Garnet, 14-7 Cory Boyd scored two first-quarter touchdowns to lead the Black team to a 14-7 win over the Garnet squad in South Carolina's annual Garnet & Black Spring Game, held in front of a crowd of 35,153 at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday. Emanuel Cook intercepted a Blake Mitchell pass on the third play of the game and returned it to the Black 44-yard line. From there, the Black drove 56 yards in 11 plays, including a 23-yard burst by Boyd, setting up his two-yard touchdown run and a 7-0 lead. After a missed 57-yard field goal from the Garnet's Ryan Succop, the Black team matriculated 60 yards down the field in eight plays, with Boyd again reaching paydirt, this time from one-yard out, to put the Black on top, 14-0. The Garnet team, led by senior quarterback Blake Mitchell, finally got on the board midway through the second quarter. They went 88 yards in 13 plays, with Mitchell hitting junior Kenny McKinley in the end zone on a fourth-and-goal play from the one. The key play of the drive was an 18-yard tote by Bobby Wallace. From there the defenses dominated as neither team mounted much of a scoring threat. Boyd's Two Touchdowns Lift Black Over Garnet, 14-7 Last edited by Lefty Noob : 04-15-2007 at 12:20 PM. |

| Re: Boyd's Two Touchdowns Lift Black Over Garnet, 14-7 Mitchell threw a pair of INTs in this one, and Smelley was also picked off. So the QBs weren't great, but the defenses were and the running games weren't half bad either. Bobby Wallace ran 10 times for 61 yards for the Garnet, and Boyd had 58 yards on eight carries to go along with his two TDs.
