Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

According an an AP article this morning, "South Carolina might be pulling in its best-ever recruiting class under Spurrier, who was not known for his willingness to pound the recruiting trails during his Florida days. The haul includes Tampa, Fla., quarterback Stephen Garcia (who has signed), and Garner, N.C., wide receiver Chris Culliver." Wonder how many letters they'll be receiving today.

Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

This is supposed to be the greatest signing class in Gamecock history. We will see in four years! I read that the signing class of 1985 with Todd Ellis was considered the best. This goes back a ways, but the signing class of 1973 had three NFL starters and "Remember the Titans" QB, Ronnie 'Sunshine' Bass in it - was 1985 better than that?

What were the top three FB signing classes ever at SC?

Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

It looks as if CLEMSON shot themselves in the foot with thier academic excellence or they just wanted to compete with DUKE. So Spurrier wins by default.

Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

Clemson did do stupid things this year ... but they were recruiting different people. The lost out on Dwight Jones, who went to UNC and JO JO Cox, who may still end up at CU.

Spurrier has put together a much more impressive class than CU even if they would have signed those guys.

We should finally have some depth at the DL. We have not had a decent DL in many many years. This should pay dividends immediately.

2007 is looking very promising for the Cocks!

Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

I always enjoyed watching a Spurrier coached team in college. They were always entertaining. It has made me pay attention to SC this year. I hope this class pans out for him. It would be something if he could take a perennial loser into a powerhouse.

Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

That was pretty harsh!

We are not a perennial loser! Our history has not been great but ...

the 90's were fairly good to us. Lou Holtz's teams won 2 outback bowls

Brad Scotts team won a Carquest bowl .. and of course Spurrier just won the Liberty bowl.

Ok .. maybe we lose a lot more than we win ... but not lately ....and hopefully not in the future.

I guess that is what you were saying huh!?

I just think of Duke when you say Perennial loser and we are much better than them!

Re: South Carolina Football Signing Day

I don't take it personal .. it is all in fun.

I graduated from usc in 1992 and except for two years 1-10 and 0-11, it always felt like we were a decent team.

When you look at the record though .. there are not that many decent years. I just never thought of us as a perennial loser!

Hopefully, with Spurrier there now, our image will change drastically. Unfortunately for Duke, they went back down after he left. Hopefully, he will leave us like he did Florida.

His son is on our coaching staff, so maybe he will take over and be as dynamic and exciting as his father when he retires in 7 years!
