Re: Spurrier gets a Contract Extension

he first coach in South Carolina history to take the Gamecocks to bowl games in both of his first two years in Columbia, Spurrier's amended contract will keep him at South Carolina through 2012 with his annual guaranteed compensation increased to $1.75 million per year, a $500,000 bump up from his existing contract.

Does this put an end to the Alabama rumors?

Nope, Not at all. This may give more force behind Mal Moore.

No sense in wasting his time, Spurriers not going anywhere until he accomplishes what he came for. An SEC championship, or at the least, getting to the SECCG. The one thing we, USC, needs to do is pay him what he's worth and $1.75 mil is low. We've got the best coach for the least amount of money in college football and certainly the SEC. The very least we should have done was put him in the $2 Mil/year club. Hopefully next year we'll make that right, even though he's made it clear $ is not the real driving force with him now. Still, what's right is right!

Hi Gamecock74, welcome to GoTeamsGo

I thought I heard SS turned down a higher pay, told them he'd rather have the extra $$ to pay his staff more. You heard that?

Look forward to chatting more with you.

Yes, when we hired him 2 years ago, the first offer on the table was $1.5 Mil/year. My understanding is that he told whomever he was talking to "that he'd rather have them take $250,000. and put it towards his assistants salaries". Well, actually I was told he wanted part of the original offer $250,000. I assume, to be put towards the womens budgets AND his assistants salaries. Over time, the word has been just his assistants, but I do believe originally the women sports were included. I specifically remember being impressed with that!
Also, thanks for the welcome. This is a great board...much more varied topics! I'll be around more!
