Spurrier staying at South Carolina

South Carolina have reworked the contract of coach Steve Spurrier in a deal that all but assures the Ol' Ball Coach won't be leaving to go to Miami or Alabama. According to the AP, "The university's board of trustees on Saturday approved a reworked contract that increases Spurrier's yearly salary to $1.75 million, up from his current package of about $1.25 million. The first coach to lead South Carolina to a bowl in his first two seasons also had his contract extended through the 2012 season."

Good idea for the university to lock up Spurrier, who definitely seems happy at the university. I bet you Gamecock fans are thrilled about this news, right?

Spurrier said he hoped the new deal would end speculation he would be anywhere else than South Carolina next season and beyond.

He wanted prospects to know "if you come to South Carolina, you're going to play for coach Spurrier and his coaches."
I think it's a great move on the part of SC. No point in letting the rumor mill get any more steam.

Is Steve inline to be AD after he's done coaching or has that never come up?

Re: Spurrier staying at South Carolina

I'm not sure, but I heard that the AD post in the future was part of the offer that lured him to SC in the first place. I understand that SS does not want to be distracted by the AD duties while he's head coach - at least not until he gets the SEC Crown at SC.

I'm also not sure if that's something he be interested in, but personally I doubt it. Obviously his love is coaching and after his time here, I'm assuming he'll want to enjoy retirement...play golf and spend more time with his family. Can't see where he'd need the money enough to put up with the headaches of being an AD.
