| Soccer: US Women over Sweden BLAINE, Minn. (AP) -- Kristine Lilly scored in the 92nd minute to lead the United States to a 3-2 exhibition win over Sweden on Saturday.
The U.S. controlled most of the match, outshooting Sweden 12-3 in the near 100-degree heat. It was the first match on U.S. soil for the national team this year and its first match since a 1-0 win over Japan on May 9.
"This wasn't a great soccer game by any means," Lilly said. "I think a lot of it had to do with the heat. At least we gave the crowd something at the end to cheer about." Three goals were scored in the game's final 3 minutes.
Abby Wambach scored in the 38th minute for the United States. The goal was the 55th of Wambach's career. Life after Mia...Lilly is part of the old guard having played with Mia at North Carolina...Wambach part of the future...still no player with Hamm's charisma has surfaced yet. |
