Well England take the first match 1-0...caught up with the game late. Missed the one goal which took place at the 4 minute mark....a Beckham corner kick that lead to an own goal.

Paraguay looked tentative and slow. England looked average. They are going to need Rooney. But Rooney is not match ready after his injury. Still, glad to see England take the opener.

she had an English accent, and was quite happy to hear about the goal.
Go England. Their loss record is almost as long as the Leafs.

I like England, but one of their main Strikers is hurt and they played uninspired. And what kind of British fan would be at a garage sale anyway?

How are Canadian garage sales? Anyone get rid of hockey cards?

Anyway, I think England hasn't won since 1966, which is one more year than the Leafs...so yeah...its been a while.

I'd just like to let you know that David Beckham is extremely overrated. I am sure that you already know, that he is just a decent soccer player with good looks.

That corner-kick wasn't anything special, except that the guy popped the ball into his own goal using his noggin. I have seen it done plenty of times before, but never in the World Cup.

In other words, let's go USA!

If Great Britain plays USA, this could mean another Revolutionary War!

Gotta disagree with you Marc my man...the free kick by Beckham had some wicked bend to it...it made it hard for the defender to clear...without Beckham it would have been nil-nil.

USA is up tomorrow at noon time. Though match..Czech Republic.

yes, you are right - one more year of defeat than us.
the garage sale was for the kids to raise money to go to Europe so give her a break - she chose child over mother country.
and I'll keep an eye out for hockey cards.

A great quote I read in the Sporting News came from someone before England played gremany for the Cup in 1966. It went something like this" Don't fret boys if we should lose to Germany at our national pasttime once. We have already beaten them at theirs twice." England won 4-2.

That's cool...Germany looks a bit better than England this year...young on Defense though.
