Im sure like 99.99% of this country could care less about the greatest game on earth, but the US Men's National soccer coach, Bruce Arena, selected the 23 names that will represent the USA in the 2006 World Cup. For the most part, the names were to be expected. But there were two that caught me by surprise.
I wasn't expecting Jimmy Conrad or Brian Ching on the team. I thought Conrad, for the most part, has played well in the qualifiers, but since he lacked the experience I thought Arena would pass up on him and select someone like Albright. Ching was a major surprise. Taylor Twellman has played very well this year for the National team, while Ching has been average at best.
With Ching I think it falls down to two reasons. 1) He got off to a good start in the MLS season so he's currently in form for the Cup. 2) He's a physical player and matches up better with Wolff on the 2nd team.
Call me silly, but I like my strikers to score and Ching hasnt shown that on the International level. Taylor has, but I trust in Bruce.
Germany..here we come!!!
