HARTFORD, Connecticut, March 16 (Reuters) - United States midfielder Landon Donovan has been ruled out of next week's friendly with Germany in Dortmund after failing to recover from a right calf strain.
His club Los Angeles Galaxy said Donovan would be sidelined for two to three weeks after suffering the injury on March 8 in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match.

U.S. coach Bruce Arena said he would not be replacing Donovan as he takes an 18-man squad for Wednesday's game with the World Cup hosts. Donovan, who has 25 goals in 77 appearances for the U.S., was expected to fill the central midfield role vacated by Manchester City's Claudio Reyna who is not available due to club commitments.
