Seahawks Lock-Up Tatupu Through 2015

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP)—When the Seahawks were trying to draft overlooked Lofa Tatupu three years ago out of Southern California, they couldn’t reach him. He was in a beach house—and out of reception area for the family’s cell phones, the only numbers the middle linebacker had given Seattle.

Tatupu and the four-time defending NFC West champions agreed on Friday to a $42 million contract extension that could keep him as the leader of Seattle’s defense through 2015. It also keeps Tatupu from becoming a free agent after the 2009 season.

As long as we have our defensive team leader, we can stay stable on defense. I like this new deal. Tatupu will hopefully retire as a hawk

great deal both ways. tatupu gets his money, and the seahawks get a top 5 inside linebacker through 2015. right now i see nothing holding the seahawks back from a superbowl run. they have an improved offensive line(wahle), extremely improved running game (duckett, jones), above average receiving group (branch, burleson, engram), and a pro bowl quarterback in the prime of his career. the defensive is really sound as well. the d-line is arguably the best in the league at getting to the quarterback, we have three all-pro caliber linebackers who compliment eachother better than any other group in the league, and our db's are looking very good for next year with trufant shutting down the opposing teams best player every night, and the safeties(russell, grant) both eliminate the long pass play and contribute to stopping the run. theres only one flaw defensively for the hawks that i feel needs to be adressed. thats beefing up the d-line against the run. it killed us in the playoffs last year. our defensively speed is amazing, but it cant hide the fact that were not big enough on the inside against the run. we do have bernard, but losing darby will hurt us significantly against the run.

Hey at least it was darby and not tapp or rocky. He was of least importance to our line. Who knows maybe we can get an even better pick up. Your words our gold my brotha. We have the best LB's in the league hands down

i would agree that darby was the least important of the three. But he is still a rather good defensive tackle with superbowl experience. if you remember right, he won it with the buccanears and went with the hawks. what im trying to get at is that our d-tackles already needed help and we lost a stellar player with super bowl experience. in my eyes that is the weakest position on the team. during the playoffs, the weather is not always going to cooperate. and when its snowing like it did in lambeau, we need bigger guys in the middle to stuff the run.
