The Seahawks offered CB Marcus Truffant less money in 6 years than San Francisco CB Nate Clements was given over 5.
Because of that, negotiations have stalled, probably at least until New England’s Asante Samuel signs a contract, establishing the market value for cornerbacks.
The Seahawks have made Trufant “non-exclusive,” meaning other teams can negotiate with him and the Seahawks hold the right of first refusal. If he signs with another team, the Seahawks would receive two first-round picks from that team as compensation.
The Niners may have overpaid to attract Clements in free agency. But if Samuel’s own team pays him similarly, it would verify a new threshold for Pro Bowl-caliber cornerbacks.

What do the Hawks do? Pay him? Negotiate with another team and trade him? If they pay him, it will eat into their cap space.
