Mike Holmgren Will Return to Seahawks in '08

Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren has decided to return to the team for the 2008 season, NFL Network's Adam Schefter and ESPN's John Clayton are reporting.

The move comes after a couple of weeks of speculation that Holmgren was ready to retire. Holmgren himself had hinted at it, even going so far as to say he'd like to open a bookstore as his post-football career. Seahawks assistant head coach Jim Mora withdrew his name from consideration for the Redskins' head coaching job, which increased speculation that he was about to take over in Seattle.

Holmgren has a record of 170-110, including 86-68 with the Seahawks. Under his leadership, Seattle has won four straight division titles. Holmgren's career playoff record is 13-11, including 4-6 with the Seahawks.

Re: Mike Holmgren Will Return to Seahawks in '08

Mike Holmgren is one of the greatest coaches in the NFL, and he has turned our team from shame to something to be proud of. When he leaves it will be a sad day for our team. His leadership is needed, and I can only hope that he will stay with our team permanently even if it means in another position other than Head Coach.

I would also like to say, as I have ever since he broke the record, that Alexander needs to go. Never liked him, though I give credit where it is due. He is a great RB however I would have cut him over Steve Hutch any day.

My belief which many will disagree is this.

You can put a Good RB behind a Great O-Line and have better results than a Great RB behind a Bad O-Line.

Losing Hutch meant more injuries, more sacks, and far less production in both the run and pass game. Proof is in the last 2 years. I can only hope we make a bid on Alan Faneca now that he will be in the Free Agency. He is one of the greats in the game and has many years left in him. No one on our roster has been able to fill the void left by Steve Hutchinson, and we have been through so many O-Line position shifts it makes me dizzy.

Another reason I have faith and wish Mike Holmgren to stay is he was upset at the loss of our Guard as much as I was. Shows me that he is on the right page, for if they would have listened to him who knows where our team might have gone. Matt less injured? Alexander either gone and new RB or here less injured and more production? More time in pocket for Matt? Or maybe Mack Strong would still be with us on the field.

Food for thought.

Re: Mike Holmgren Will Return to Seahawks in '08

Holmgren's Wednesday press conference is that in a one-on-one setting, you can lead Holmgren down a certain path and stay on topic. At his press conference, just when you get him on a certain track, somebody else jumps in with their own question and the conversation veers elsewhere.
Having said that, the biggest news that came out of that interview was that Holmgren said the Seahawks are going to have to concentrate on their own free agents, Marcus Trufant, Josh Brown and Sean Locklear, which will preclude them from going after big-name, big-money guys like Alan Faneca.

Will they be using the franchise tag on Brown?

I'm sure he feels like there's unfinished business - such as winning a Super Bowl in Seattle. Seems like the window might be closing though.

The window is closing? We never even went to a Super Bowl B4 him. And he keeps taking us to the playoffs and giving us that chance. We just happen to be plagued by injuries. If we had a solid O-Line/Run game and more than one corner, we would have taken it.

However we have not had this much potential since Warren Moon was our QB (sadly he was very old by then but hey, still a legend). I say we lose Holmgren you can forget about the Super Bowl. Jim Mora I like and think he has done great with our secondary, however as our Head Coach, you will have to excuse me for not having the faith in him that I have in Mike Holmgren.

Wouldnt it be simpler to go to a library?
Good thing you didnt do the sandwich shop thing. You'd eat up the profits.

I am afraid the window is leaving a very small opening here. The Players are good but getting a little older. Maybe they will make some good moves in the offseason.

Sorry, I should have specified. I meant because of guys like Alexander getting older. Seems like the corps of the team he took to the NFC Championship won't be together all that much longer. Wasn't meant to suggest that he was on the outs or anything; just that the team is likely at most 3 years away from needing to rebuild.

Hey, the Seattle Times makes it sound like 2008 will definitely be Holmgren's last year, no matter what. That true?
