Areas of Improvement

It's always hard to improve on a team that just made it to the Super Bowl. However, I think the 'Hawks could use a few things to improve the team either for the 2006 season, or the future.

QB: Nothing really. Give Seneca more pre-season time and he'll develop into a back up we can rely on.

HB: Um... nothing.

FB: Mack Strong is aging. Seattle drafted Leonard Weaver last year. I'm not sure if he's a potential starter, but he ran the ball well in 2005. How well does he block, though? Mack's the best blocking full back in the league.

WR: After catching the balls, this unit showed finally showed the league how good they are. No one is a real speedster, but Darrell Jackson can run the deep routes well. I think Seattle needs someone with some decent hands, but blazing speed to one, spread the defense once and a while and open up the field, and two, to return kicks.

TE: Jerramy Stevens is good. He can run, catch and block. Hannam is developing. He needs more reps to be a suitable backup.

OL: Where as the left side is secure (depending on the Hawks resigning Hutch), the Robbie Tobeck and Chris Gray are aging. Tobeck apparently has a replacement up and coming. But, beyond that, the only guy to fill in is Flyod Womack. Seattle needs another offensive lineman to help fill in incase of injury.

DL: With Marcus Tubbs developing, the DL is starting to become a great pass rush defense. They handle the run well, but they still can't apply great pressure all the time. More exp. should help.

LB: With Lofa Tatupu and LeRoy Hill, two rookies, the linebacking unit should be great for years to come. D.D Lewis shores up the other outside linebacker position, but he's an average player made good by his counterparts. A better OLB should make this linebacking crew the best.

DB: Trufant can stick and pick. Herndon can shadow, but can't always deflect the pass. But they work. However, Ken Hamlin abscence was missed. The 'Hawks need a defensive back with speed who can keep up with some of the fast receivers.

Special Teams: Josh Brown is a great kicker. However, Tom Rouen is good, but old. A punter is needed. Scobey showed some potential in kick returning, however, a guy who can burn by some defenders might help.

Re: Areas of Improvement

A couple additions:

QB: I think they should somehow work Seneca into the offense more often and get the ball in his hands. He is such an athlete it is a shame to keep him on the sidelines but they can't risk injuring him and having to go to Greene if Hass gets hurt.

OL: I think they are still in great shape. Spencer and Willis are badasses who, with a good offseason and training camp, can step in and do well along with Womack. I think Tobeck will be back but Grey might have seen the end of the road.

WR: From what I hear Seattle should be resigning JJ so with Jackson, Engram, JJ, Hackett, and Warrick I think they are solid at WR. If someone like Chad Jackson happens to drop to them in the draft they would be stupid not to take him but I think they can also pick up a solid receiver (Mike Hass for instance) in the 3rd or 4th round.

DL: If Rocky Bernard leaves they will need to address DT and they can always use another D-end. Fisher and Wistrom are good all around players but a pass rushing freak would be a nice addition.

LB: There are a ton of good linebackers in the draft and I think the Hawks can get one of them (Ryans, Sims, Greenway, Hawk, Carpenter) with the 31st pick. I am hoping for Ryans personally. With Tatupu and Hill that would be a great young LB corps. Kaz and Kouts along with DD Lewis, Bently, and Wortham would provide some decent depth also.

Secondary: Looks like Manuel will be going on to GB so if there is a good safety (maybe Ko Simpson) available at the end of the 1st round the Seahawks can go that route. I expect them to pick up a good corner through free agency and Jordan Babineaux should improve as well.

All in all the Hawks are looking very strong for at least the next 2 or 3 years. After that they will need to get some of their young defenseive players resigned. I know I am biased but I can't see how the Hawks aren't gonna be the favorite in the NFC this coming year.

Re: Areas of Improvement

I don't know about Stevens. I probably don't get to see the 'Hawks out here as much as you guys do, but I'm of the mindset that TE is definitely one area where they could stand to upgrade. Love their linebacking corps [Tatupu's a future Defensive Player of the Year, no doubt] but as you say Dr. Cool it wouldn't hurt to pick up some DT and S help in the draft.
