I have no clue if this is actually a thought among the Mariners or just a local writer throwing it out there because there's not much else to write about. But John Hickey writes that the Mariners should (could) be interested in trading for Barry Zito.
The reasons being, the Giants are entering rebuilding mode and could use some young players via trade that the Mariners could provide. Meanwhile, the Mariners would be required to take on about $116 million of Zito's remaining contract. They could always work something out to get that number closer to the $99 million that Seattle offered Zito in free-agency and have San Francisco pick up some amount.
Interesting, but I don't think Zito will be traded with such a large deal and a poor statistical year.
