Only one starting pitcher has gotten Seattle into the eighth inning this month -- Ryan Feierabend, who is now in the bullpen.

However, perhaps their performance in the first inning should be of greater concern.

Losses over the weekend in Houston began with two runs in the first off Cha Seung Baek on Saturday and four in the first off Jarrod Washburn on Sunday.

Those performances are just the latest in a season-long first-inning horror story. Opponents are averaging .364 against Seattle in the first inning. They've scored 66 runs in the first inning, which is almost a fifth (19.6 percent) of all the runs Seattle has allowed this season.

And there have been eight first-inning homers, a relatively high percentage (17.4 percent) of the total number allowed.

It sounds to me like it is a concentration issue. They may be too amped up when the game starts.
