Good breakdown here of the 2006 Seattle Mariners season.
Quote:
What went right: Seattle was very encouraged by the development of its top young talent, namely shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt, second baseman Jose Lopez and pitcher Felix Hernandez. The bullpen -- until late-season injuries hit -- was surprisingly good, especially the emergence of closer J.J. Putz (36 saves). Rookie catcher Kenji Johjima drove in 76 runs and was dependable defensively. What went wrong: Again, most of the Mariners' problems centered around an offense that largely underachieved, as sluggers Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson got off to slow starts. Each recovered some in the second half, but by then it was too late. The team struggled mightily against American League West foes, going 19-38 with a 0-11 record to show for an August road trip against the Rangers, Angels and A's.

Not a great season for Seattle, but they do have Ichiro and some up and coming young talent. What does the forecast look like for the Mariners in 2007 and beyond?
