Mariners C Kenji Johjima

Has anyone else been surprised by the performance of Seattle Mariners C Kenji Johjima this season?

Quote:
Johjima's 10th-inning single lifts Mariners past Detroit Tigers
Associated Press

Kenji Johjima's RBI single in the 10th inning put the Seattle Mariners ahead, and J.J. Putz held the lead in a 5-4 win over the slumping Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

After Johjima's bloop single, Joel Zumaya (6-3) prevented further damage by getting out of a bases-loaded jam.

Jon Huber (1-0) struck out one and gave an intentional walk in the ninth inning, and Putz got three outs for his 31st save, sending the leaders of the American League Central Division to their 19th loss in 28 games.
This kid is on my fantasy team. He was auto drafted for me, and at first I was ticked because I'd never heard of the guy. But Johjima's been a pretty solid contributor for me, and its been a pleasant surprise. What do you think about the Seattle catcher?

Re: Mariners C Kenji Johjima

Decent, but not a Mike Piazza.

I would acquire him for a fantasy team since he is a reliable and solid catcher. I heard better things of him in Japan, but they always say that the players are better there. Hideki Matsui smacked 50+ homeruns in Japan and here he has only hit about 30 a season. Kazuo Matsui was a bust, but is a decent back-up at 2B.

As for Johjima, I would like to see more years from him before I make any permanant franchise decisions.

He is like an experiment. You need to be patient before you can give out your final conclusion.

Come on Marc...after 130 games you got to have a gut feel about it...Hideki is still an RBI machine...so one of two Matsuies have panned out...and don't Ichiro...

He has been a nice player, offensively. His numbers are pretty good for a guy who's playing his first year in the United States and Majors. After the debacle that's Kaz Matsui, it's a pleasant surprise knowing there are players who make the adjustment.
