Possible IRL Schedule Change

Tonight, on Wind Tunnel, Dave announced that Robin Miller is reporting the the 2009 IRL schedule will lose Nashville and Homestead and replace them with a race in Mexico City, possibly at a yet-to-be-built oval track.

Nashville doesn't surprise me. Nashvuille has never been a hotbed of Indy car activity, anyway. But Homestead? I thought that they ran pretty well at Homestead and they had a decent attendance?

If they start leaving the country more often to race, it'll kill the US audience. IRL will lose all chance of becoming a major motor sport and become just another niche sport, as Champ Car was.

But, I could be very wrong...

Re: Possible IRL Schedule Change

I think they would be OK with races outside the US, as long as they stay on North America.

That will allow them to fit nicely into the TV schedule.

And we all know that is what really matters! We've beaten that to death on the NASCAR forums.

And keep in mind the NBA playoff game on tonight.

I started at 8:30 or 9, in Boston!

Why so late on a Sunday night?

For the West Coast audience!

I think that sort of logic that we find throughout the sports world proves that as long as folks can stumble across it at a convenient time, they will watch.

I don't even thing a NASCAR race that started at 2 am would draw that great of an audience!
