Ferguson was a player agent responsible for negotiating player contracts, product endorsements and player recruitment. From 1993 to 1996 he was a member of the Senators scouting staff as an amateur and professional scout. During that time he also spent the summers of 1994 and 1995 at the NHL office in the hockey operations and legal departments.
Ferguson served as vice president and director of hockey operations for St Louis and before that he was assistant general manager for the club for five seasons. In that role he evaluated players at the professional and amateur level and negotiated player contracts.

ok thanks for that. Maybe he just wasn't ready for the GM position but then again, all decisions made are a gamble to some degree. Let's see how Finger works out. Maybe Ferguson would've passed on him. What about Grabovski centering Antropov and Ponikarovsky. He may blossom. Do you go the ACC often?

almost never - too expensive and ticket availability is rare.
Seems Ferguson had the experience but failed when he was in charge. He does love hockey.
Cliff Fletcher is a real hard a** - he does not care about making friends with players or fans - maybe that's what a GM needs, what ferguson lacked.
