Who Do You Build the Giants Around?

Next year, assuming Barry Bonds leaves (retires, free-agency, whatever) and Brian Sabean does the smart thing by rebuilding, who do you build around? Do the Giants have that one stud pitcher/hitter who they can?

And how has Matt Cain been coming along?

I don't think they have one guy to build around. They're a veteran team that, once Bonds leaves, will have one or two down years as they rebuilt. Once Barry hangs 'em up, I think its time to blow it up and start from scratch. Maybe get some good free agents to remain competitive while you bring along the AAA talent. My two cents, anyway.

I second Lefty Noob's approach to the situation.

The Giants should:
-Build around a young free-agent
-Build around a young prospect
-Give it up and just end the franchise. I don't think we will be around to see the Giants by the time they rebuild their team!

Pedro Feliz is still young enough to become a major factor for years to come. We just need some young stud of a pitcher to be "the man"

Re: Who Do You Build the Giants Around?

I wouldn't center a baseball team around Pedro Feliz if you want to win. He is a good player for a team that has the highest expectations of going .500 in the season, not for a team that has the potential of making the Playoffs.

As you know, there will be some great free-agents up for grabs this year if their teams don't decide to re-sign them. I think Alfonso Soriano will be on the move this off-season and I encourage the Giants to spark some interest in the left-fielder/second-baseman.
