Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

Right now, #756 doesn't look all that far out of his reach. If he plays enough seasons, he should be able to smack 38 homeruns to get on top. That isn't that much to ask, considering he could play four seasons and hit 10 homeruns in each.

And then instead of the corny "glory to god" speech when he becomes the homerun leader he could give thanks to Steriodus. The Roman god of illegal growth hormones.

That is a great joke, Trashed. You always bring great news, and jokes to our forum. Thank you!

Which other MLB athletes would commend their effort and skills to the Greek God of Illegal Growth Hormones: Steroidus?

I suppose our pal Gary Sheffield and Jason "I need money so I give interviews" Grimsley. But seriously...imagine if we had a player with the heart of Kirk Gibson? The skill of Wade Boggs? The precision of Rickey Henderson? The fluidity of Alan Trammell? Wouldnt you trade the steroid gang for them? Dont you miss Kirby Puckett? I do. I Miss guys like that so much I stopped watching the sport they vacated with piss poor players to carry the torch they held.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

I think that some of the major leaguers are spoiled by money. One example of this is All-Star, Manny Ramirez. He goes where money goes, and doesn't do anything out of kindness. I have heard many things about him, mostly that he is a snob. He may be a great player, but I don't remember any other players in the past as spoiled as him.

Babe Ruth once made more money than the US President. When asked about his large salary compared to the President he responded, "I had the better year". Ruth was a comical athlete, who also named one of the tastiest chocolate bars. He was not a snob, to my opinion.

Adam Dunn will never be a Kirk Gibson. Jose Reyes will never be a Rickey Henderson. Johan Santana will never be a Don Sutton. The present will never resemble the past.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

My friends son played basball with Manny Ramirez here in the bronx in high school. My friend said he was just as much a jerk as he is now. I tried posting what a moron this guy is by camcording his homeruns and his horrendous attitude but all I got is posts saying "Well Bud Selig doesnt mind so its ok." Bud Selig wouldnt mind placing land mines in the outfield to make the game more entertaining however. If your looking for moral approval...Selig aint it. I also blame the fans a lot for viewing this morally bankrupt practice of baseball. They know all the crimes and corruption in baseball yet still watch MLB night after night and walk around with clone like Yankee shirts. I guess baseball does mirror america.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

Where did Manny Ramirez go to High School? Wasn't it something like "Washington"? Anyway, some people don't change that much over time. Snobs are still snobs, unless somebody impacts their life in anyway.

Bud Selig is such a conservative "watch-dog". He watches what happens, but doesn't do anything about it until it is truly neccesary. I would lay some blame on him for the steroid abuse, because he could have taken care of this years ago. We could really use some kind of liberal commish here to overview the actions performed regarding baseball.

Do you have any time to construct a MLB Fans' Constitution? It would be awesome to send it to their headquarters, so they can get an understanding of how we feel. Not that they care at all, but it would be a nice and appropriate gesture.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

Marc, they wouldnt even read it. Baseball is a lost cause im afraid. Those list of players I named are no more and these clowns just swing for the moon and take steriods to make sure their balls launch over the fence? What if Mickey Mantle took steroids? Hed have 1,000 home runs! Bad knees or not. Imagine a real player with guts like Andre Dawson or George Bell on 'roids (not that they need them or would take them) they would look like Superman! Ask yourself this...in this day and age would you want your son in his early 20s as a major league baseball player? I wouldnt. I think drugs are dangerous.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

It would be a different story nowadays, Trashed. I agree that drugs are very dangerous and harmful, but not all major-leaguers use them. Only a select few use them, and they aren't a large majority of the total. By this recent exposure, we have this feeling that they all use them on a frequent basis. But that feeling is just a temporary sensation which will float away as time passes.

If I had a son who was a major leaguer, I would be proud of him. But of course, there are plenty of better jobs out there. Who would want to risk injuries on a daily basis, as well as their health. It is important to have a healthy body, but it is also important to have a balanced life. I would rather have my son work in an office and go to the gym on a regular basis. Company softball games are a great opportunity to participate in to get into shape and have some fun.

If steroids existed and were used as much as they are now, we wouldn't have the same kind of pastime. History would be different, in which the records would be bigger. Roger Maris wouldn't have stopped at 61, but maybe 89. We are talking Barry Bonds type numbers here.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

I dont think its that few Marc. The stats will come out sometime especially if the feds think theres somekind of drug conspiracy which I believe they do. And if someone I once admired like Don Mattingly is handing out amphetamines in the locker room than I wouldnt want my son to play major league baseball. A young player usually takes advice from a legend...even bad advice.

Cool Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

The interesting thing about Bonds is that he's not playing in the All Star game in Pittsburgh and nobody cares. If it wasn't for this steroid thing, you could be sure he would have been at that game somehow. Selig is so hoping that BB retires at the end of the season.

Re: Bonds hits No. 718, but Giants still lose

Bonds wont retire...hell break Aarons record and no one will care. If he breaks the record baseball will be even more fodder for late night talk show hosts than it already is! And its not like the resentment Hammerin Hank got when he became the leader, thats racism. With Bonds its cheating and cheating is colorblind and has no religion. Barry Bonds will never again be thought of as a great player.
