Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues According to the fantasy sports stock market I am a member of, Barry Bonds was a hot stock around May 10th and then everybody started selling him. In the past 24 hours Mr. Bonds has been bought six times and sold four. Unless Barry Bonds started whacking some more homers this season, he won't have a big fantasy value. I would personally try to get rid of him as soon as he passes Babe Ruth on the All-Time homerun list.

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues Hey I'm thinking you guys have no faith. Remember the guy was off for a whole season and on crutches. It's gonna take a little while before he gets his eye and his swing back. But soon Barry will get his groove and watch out.

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues Heard a stat this morning that, if he maintained his current pace, he wouldn't break Aaron's record until the April or May of 2008. The thinking has started to turn from this being a slump to this being what Bonds is right now, an aging slugger whose best days are behind him. Not saying I agree, but it does seem that way. If the people who are saying this are wrong, let Barry prove them wrong.

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues MJH, I wasn't really predicting I was just kind of hoping. I mean I know Barry has some more in him. He just needs a little more time to recuperate. Plus what do you expect when he gets booed everywhere and is constantly harassed by people. Give the guy a break. SHEESH

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues One thing that gets on my nerves about this is ESPNews who every night the Giants play have the little "BREAKING NEWS" box with Bonds' line for that night. Everyone has tried to downplay the feat but ESPN who latch onto a story, sink their teeth in and hype it to the moon.

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues Once he breaks the record I think the coverage would go down a notch. Some fans still think that Barry Bonds still has some juice in him (like Pete_B). No, I didn't mean that kind of juice if you were wondering. This isn't some kind of Jose Canseco book, alright? By the rate Barry Bonds is going there is chance that Barry Bonds might get injured before he belts #715. Could you imagine if he suffers a career-ending injury before he breaks the record? Who do you think will be the next to (for now) the 700s? It sounds like an incredible feat on a faraway land. Concluding the steroids era I don't think there will ever be another player to hit 70+ homeruns in a season. Even though some people think Pujols has a chance, I doubt he will make it with his 40 homers per season. On average he hits 41 homers if he were to participate in 162 games each season. On that rate it would take him 17 seasons to get to 700 homeruns. He is already on the start of his sixth season entertaining the fans in St. Louis. Could you wait eleven long years for another record like this to be broken?

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait ENDS Barry has broken the record. He hit his 714 today vs. Brad Halsey of Oakland. The ball was caught on the fly by Tyler Snyder (lucky dude). Here is a link for all you non-believers. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BBO_BONDS_714?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAUL T&CTIME=2006-05-20-17-37-10

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait ENDS I don't believe it...just kidding. It was going to happen sometime or later. In fact, I bet you that Barry Bonds will break Babe Ruth's record by the end of the season. It is honestly going to happen and there is really no point of discussing it.

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait ENDS I was wondering whether or not Barry Bonds would get home run #714 before the end of May. I guess the answer is a resounding yes. So could this be the start of a hot streak for Mister Bonds? Pete, as the board's resident #1 Barry supporter, what say you? Will he start to catch fire now that the pressure of hitting this all-important home run is off?
| |||
Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues Pressure is off? He has even more pressure now to break the record. But Pete_B, would probably say that he has pressure throughout the season. I don't understand Pete_B. He is a Chicago Cubs fan and yet a Barry Bonds supporter. What happens when they play each other?
